Group History
The André Jordan Group has vast experience in real estate and tourism sectors. Since it was founded as a family company in the 1940s, the Group has left its mark on every project - a brand distinguished by enduring, high-quality developments, innovation, thoughtful construction, embedded in their communities.
The story begins in 1940, when Henryk Spitzman Jordan crossed Europe with his family following the invasion of his native Poland. After a brief stay in Portugal - where he forged ties, friendships and valuable contacts -, he settled in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in the same year founded Companhia de Importações, Industrial e Construtora, known as CIIC.
In Brazil, the entrepreneur Henryk Spitzman Jordan was responsible for emblematic landmarks, notably two examples. The CBI Esplanada Building, the first skyscraper in Vale do Anhangabaú, in downtown São Paulo. Designed by Polish architect Lucjan Korngold and completed in 1948, it became a reference of modern Brazilian architecture. In Rio de Janeiro, the iconic Chopin Building, beside the Copacabana Palace and completed in 1956, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, stands out as a modernist project by French architect Jacques Pilon.
Henryk Spitzman Jordan passed away in 1967. André Jordan, who had followed in his father’s footsteps - working for both the family companies and in major international real estate companies - would go on to transform Portuguese tourism with visionary, large-scale developments.
In 1971, he acquired Quinta dos Descabeçados in Almancil, Algarve, where we would build Quinta do Lago. a 645-hectare resort. Today the resort is considered one of Europe’s most luxurious, with five award-winning golf courses, a high-performance sports centre and 12 exclusive restaurants. In the 1970s, Quinta do Lago introduced a new concept in Portugal, reflecting its founder’s spirit: a way of living in freedom, perfectly integrated with the surrounding community and in full respect for nature and the environment.
André Jordan continued to shape landmark projects - from multiple golf courses (ranked among Europe’s best), to resorts such as Vilamoura(a resort with a multi-award-winning marina, five golf courses, a casino and luxury hotels). Another highlight of the Group’s work is the creation of Belas Clube de Campo. Launched in 1990 the 1,000-hectare residential community, within the Serra da Carregueira forest park, at Lisbon’s doorstep.
Known as the “father of Portuguese tourism”, André Jordan received numerous awards and honours, including the Order of Infante D. Henrique. After his passing in 2024, his sons Gilberto and Henrique carried on the André Jordan Group’s work, upholding a legacy of knowledge refined over decades.
